I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!!
I love everything Christmas. My favorite time of year is from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas morning. There is something magical about the Christmas season and I look forward to it all year long. I love Christmas movies, decorating the Christmas tree, the cold weather, baking goodies for our family and others, teaching our children about Christ's birth, teaching them about Santa, buying gifts, getting gifts, Christmas music...I could go on and on. I try to cram as much of those things in the short amount of time we have between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We were able to do most of them this year.
My mom gave me a childrens nativity set. Lila and Calvin asked to play with them every day. Lila always asked to play with baby Jesus. Calvin loved playing with the animals. It was a great way to teach them about Jesus' birth. We also baked and frosted sugar cookies. The cookies did not look like the cookie cutters we used but they tasted good and the kids enjoyed help making them. Even though we were going to be in Utah for Christmas with Chris' family, we still got a tree and decorated it. Lila put the star on top and asked for the lights to be turned on every night. As for movies, we may have over done that a little. I don't even know how many times they requested to watch Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. I'd say those were the biggest hits this year. Before we left for Utah, we decided to have a pre-Christmas morning opening gifts with the kids. Calvin loves his new bead runner toy. Lila had been asking for a Cinderella doll and was really excited when she opened her present and saw Cinderella. Almost the same amount of excitement as last year when she pulled a banana out of her stocking. It's funny how things change from year to year. We flew to Utah that afternoon and we were there for 10 days. We were worried about the long plane ride with 3 small children. However, they did great, both ways, but I'm grateful all the traveling is over. It was nice having so much time before Christmas to spend together without work getting in the way.
Lila and Calvin played in the snow the first morning we were there. They were anxious to get outside. Calvin had a hard time walking around and kept falling over but Lila was able to play without too much trouble. Both Lila and Calvin loved playing with their cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Nana, and Papa. Chris' parents also had a childrens nativity. Lila was playing with it and Chris picked up baby Jesus that was on the floor under the table and asked Lila if she knew who the baby was. She responded 'it's Jesus Christ and he's in time-out'. Not sure where that came from but it got a laugh out of everyone. Emmett was as calm and sweet as ever. He handled all the hustle and bustle of being away from home with laughs and smiles.
Christmas is even more great with little kids and their excitement. Lila loved opening gifts. It didn't matter if they were hers. Calvin and Lila got a ton of great toys which we had fun packing in our suitcase to bring home. They definitely got a little spoiled being the young ones on Chris' side of the family. We had a great visit and a wonderful Christmas!
